Why do I have Temporary Zeros in My Grade book?
Temporary Zeros are the zeros with a little star by them that you might see in your gradebook if you have overdue lessons.
You will see these in your grade book on assignments that are overdue.
Here are some facts about Temporary Zeros:
How do I improve my grade on quizzes/tests?
Please note that making revisions to an assignment already submitted is a privilege, not a right, and should be treated as such.
Only revisions to essay questions are accepted.
You may revise any essay question that you do not receive full credit on.
It is up to teacher discretion whether or not a phone conference is required for a revision submission.
Please send your revisions to your teacher via webmail.
Revisions to responses that were originally sent having been copied and pasted or or deemed to have been reworded from a response found through an internet search may not be revised.
Revisions to essay questions should include a revised complete response that addresses all parts of the question.
You may earn full credit for the missed essay question by revising your answer to fully answer all parts of the given question on any test or quiz. All essay responses must include text evidence to support your response.
If you have any questions, please call your teacher rather than webmail. You will get a faster response.
All revisions for any unit are due before you move on to the next unit. For example: Unit 2 revisions are due before you begin unit 3. Unit 3 revisions are due before you begin Unit 4. Avoid waiting until the last minute to revise. If there is not time in the semester for a conference and our revision requires one, you will not get credit for the revision.
How do I improve my grade on Portfolios?
Please note that making revisions to an assignment already submitted is a privilege, not a right, and should be treated as such.
I allow all students to revise their portfolios if they received less than a 70% on their assignment or have an overall grade in Language Arts of less than 80%. I give feedback on every portfolio that is submitted.
Portfolio revisions require a writing conference with me. If you would like to revise your work, please schedule an appointment at a time that you are prepared to go over your essay together and discuss strengths and weaknesses.
After we have discussed your portfolio, you may send me your new draft. We will decide together whether it is better to send a new draft in Webmail or through the dropbox.
Grading of test corrections may take longer than standard grading, since first time submissions must take priority. You will receive an automated webmail when I have updated the grade and comments on your resubmission. Immediate grading should not be expected on revisions. In order to receive the most timely feedback on your writing, please be sure to submit only your best work the first time. Any corrections made after the fact will be graded during the time I have available between the time of submission and the end of the semester.
How do I access my Language Arts lessons?
There are three ways to access your Language Arts Lessons:
1. Access your lessons from your planner or course tree (please note that if you are behind and have not completed lessons previous to the current day, you will need to access your current lesson from the last day you completed a Language Arts Lesson, if you choose to access lessons from your planner.)
2. Access your lessons from your Courses tab. Click on your courses tab on your student page and then click on the course name.
3. Access your lessons from your grade book. Click on the gradebook icon in the top right corner of your student screen. Then click on the course name.
How Do I Achieve Success on Essay Questions?
Essay questions carry a lot of weight on your assessments and ultimately, your grade in this class. It is important that you answer them correctly and completely. They are worth multiple points, usually four and sometime more. When the question asks for a paragraph answer, a sentence WILL NOT suffice. You must always support your answers with evidence from the text and explain how your explanation supports you answer. We call this the ACE Strategy. I have attached a poster that will help guide you in answering your essay questions. We will be discussing this in Live Lesson also!
DO NOT COPY AND PASTE OR REWORD ANSWERS THAT YOU HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET. YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REVISE THESE RESPONSES.
Is late work accepted?
Late work is accepted with few exceptions. If portfolios are submitted a month or more late, they may or may not be accepted. Each of these decisions will be made on a case by case basis and you will need to talk with your teacher on the phone. Teachers may decide to accept the work with a percentage off or not accept it at all. Previous academic habits shown will be taken into consideration.
