The Persuasive Essay aka Argumentative Essay
All instructions for the persuasive essay will be given in Live Lesson and are NOT included in your Connexus lessons.

You will work on this essay from Sept. 19-Oct 2. Specific due dates for all steps are as follows:

In completing this essay, you will use all 5 steps of the writing process:

You will work on this essay from Sept. 19-Oct 2. Specific due dates for all steps are as follows:
- Prewriting/Graphic Organizers due to teacher Sept 23 (webmail your completed graphic organizer to your teacher)
- Draft/Revise/Edit work in Write to Learn due Sept 30 (this grade will be given after your final draft is turned in. This way your teacher will know that your work in Write to Learn is completed)
- Published Final Draft due Oct 2 (webmail your final draft to your teacher)

In completing this essay, you will use all 5 steps of the writing process:

You will choose 1 of the 3 writing prompt options available in Write to Learn. They are:

- Essay on Pets-Anyone who has ever owned a pet has an opinion on which animal makes the best pet. Take a stand on which kind of animal makes the best pet. Write an essay using reasons and examples to support your choice.
- Point of View on Grades-In some schools, students must maintain a C Average in order to participate in school sports, clubs, and other after school activities. Do you think this policy is fair? What are your views on this policy? Write an essay explaining your point of view. Use reasons and examples to support your position.
- Point of View on Television-Some people argue that television has been a destructive force in our society. What do you think about the impact of television on people? Write an essay explaining your point of view. Use reasons and examples to support your position.
Prewriting
Some graphic organizers are available for you to download and use below. You are not required to use the organizers that have been provided to you, but you are required to turn in a graphic organizer or outline that shows thoughtful brainstorming, the strategy you used to come up with your ideas, and how you organized your essay.
This step in the writing process is worth 10 points. It will be added to your gradebook as a draft grade titled "Persuasive Essay Graphic Organizer"
You will send your teacher a webmail with your completed graphic organizer attached. This is due by Sept 23.

Drafting, Revising, and Editing
All drafting revising and editing will be done in Write to Learn. All students should be able to access their own individual Write to Learn account no later than Sept 19.
It is suggested that you aim to complete this part of the Writing Process no later than Sept 27 to give yourself time to publish your final draft by its due date.
It is suggested that you review the rubric for the final draft of this essay before you start this process, so that you can keep the end goal in mind throughout these 3 steps of the Writing Process. You will find a file available for download below in the publishing section of this web page.

In order to access your own Write to Learn account please access your links tab from your student home page in Connexus. You will find a link to Write to Learn. If you have trouble finding this link, please call or webmail your teacher for help.
You will click on the writing prompt that you have chosen to complete your prewriting work on. You will type/draft your essay in the space provided. Please pay attention to the 6 Traits of Writing as discussed in Live Lesson.
When you have your first draft typed in Write to Learn, click "Get Feedback." Write to Learn will provide you with scores according to the 6 Traits of Writing. You can click on each trait for suggestions on how to improve your score.
Read your essay out-loud. Evaluate your essay. Then, revise your essay in Write to Learn. You can change sentence order, add words, change words, reorganize your work, etc. When you have completed your revisions, click "Get Feedback" again and evaluate to see if your score has improved. Aim for an improved score each time you submit a revised draft.
Evaluate your essay for conventional errors. Make sure you have organized it into paragraphs effectively. Check for punctuation or capitalization errors. Make changes where necessary and click "Get Feedback" again. Review your score.
You should have clicked 'Get Feedback' at least 3 separate times by the end of your drafting, revising, and editing process. This will mean that you have submitted at least 3 drafts throughout the drafting, revising, and editing process.

You will access your work in Write to Learn. Copy and paste your essay onto a Word Document. Save the document to your computer desktop. Make sure that your name and the date are on your final draft document.
Attach this document (your final draft) to a webmail. Type "Persuasive Essay Final Draft" in the subject line of your webmail. Send your webmail to your teacher.
